The Upper Gallura hinterland represents a wonderful resource for the North of Sardinia, a tableau of well-preserved and maintained ancient traditions in a stunning natural setting. In this excursion we will follow a particularly interesting route that goes from the resort to the slopes of Monte Limbara across hills dotted with natural rock formations sculpted from the granite by the Mistral wind.
During the first stop it will be possible to visit the Nuraghe Majori, an archaeological site of great interest which is just outside the town of Tempio Pausania. A few kilometres from Tempio Pausania is Aggius, a charming village in a luxuriant natural setting. We stop here in a beautiful area of natural parkland to enjoy a light lunch prepared by the resort. Aggius is also an open window onto the Gallura of the 19th century and the culture of the “Stazzi”; as a matter of fact it is precisely here that we find the largest and best endowed ethnographic museum inSardinia. It hosts a textile workshop where it is possible to see the women of the area weaving highly sought after local carpets and rugs in the ancient tradition. The day can be concluded with a visit to the banditry museum (the only one in Italy) which is another point of interest in the area.
On the return journeya stop is planned for tasting typical local products in the magnificent Valle della Luna.
